Staying Power

I walked down the steps into the hall of choice. Many doors lined each side of the walls. It was hard to choose—there were small doors and big doors. I kept walking and one door opened. I crawled in. The door shut behind me.

Ash! All ash!

I stepped into a landscape. It should have been beautiful, but it wasn’t. Everything was dead. Barren. Empty. The grief in the air gave me a chill. How could this be? Is this our future? Is this what is to come?

NO! My soul demanded. NO! It shall not be. All cannot be dead. All cannot be lost.

A gentle wind came forward and lifted the ash into the air and I felt it. Life.

All was not dead because I was still alive. I was still here.

My heartbeat drummed within, and I felt life force fill me up. It grew stronger and stronger until it spilled forth. Life flowing from me like water. Like sunshine.

I could see little plants grew beneath my toes. Soon ants came marching in and then the birds.

The life force kept flowing out until the whole scene was alive once again.

Scarcity doesn’t have to have the final say because life comes from within. Its energy can extend outward and transform everything it touches. It can heal.

In the face of ash, we have the final say. We have the choice.
